Scholarships

The Danish Institute in Damascus has granted scholarships to Danish artists, researchers, scholars and students in higher education, who wish to work and study in the Arabic-Islamic world. The scholarships are advertised in relevant  Danish scholarly journals and in papers published at the universities and other institutions of higher education with specification of what can be applied for.

Many applicants have projects that entails staying in Syria or the neighbouring countries, however, scholarships have also been granted to applicants whose projects have taken them to other parts of the Arab and Islamic world.

Since 1997 around 100 scholarships have been granted. On average, during the past few years, one fourth of the applicants have been granted a scholarship.

The scholarships are advertised in August with closing date at the beginning of October. The scholarship committee of the board then presents its recommendation at the board meeting at the end of January. The applicants receive a notification in February as to whether or not their scholarships have been granted.
