The Institute

  • The Danish Institute in Damascus is a self-governing institution, whose purpose it is to encourage research, education, art and culture in the Arab countries.
  • The Institute is engaged in preserving and developing the cultural bonds between Denmark and the Middle East, and the Institute is at the disposal of researchers, scholars, students of higher education and artists who wish to stay in Damascus to undertake and complete relevant projects.
  • The Institute itself takes the initiative to promote scientific and artistic projects through co-operations with Danish as well as international partners.
  • The Institute publishes its own written series and supports other publications.
  • Once a year the Institute grants scholarships to researchers, scholars, students of higher education and artists, who apply for support to projects within the subject areas of the Institute.
  • Tourists are welcome to visit the Institute during our opening hours. There are seats with soft pillows in our beautiful courtyard – so just sit down and relax!
